Three weeks of workation are over – my summary

It’s the first time we’ve been on vacation for three weeks. Well, on a workation, which isn’t the same thing. It’s a new concept that we’ve tried out more out of necessity than curiosity. Advantages of doing a workation

Not everything was advantages, but there were a few. It’s not surprising that the workation topic has become fashionable in job offers. I understand the hype.

Every day is Friday: Except Saturday overseas data and Sunday, which are the weekend. The first two weeks I had that feeling. You know that at the end of the day the good times begin, just like that positive and optimistic feeling you feel on Fridays.

You get out of the routine

Time has passed quickly and slowly at the same time. If you don’t have established routines like you usually have in a normal work week, time slows down.
You increase your productivity: you do more things in less time during your work time. I also combined it with writing a post, doing Freeletics and training for my marathon in October. It seemed like a challenge and an anecdote about working in an agency with small clients on some days it was, but it worked better than I had previously imagined.
Disadvantages of doing a workation
Not everything was nice. I’m not going to lie to you. There was one day where I wasn’t sure if this type of vacation was worth repeating.

Stress: Yes, in the third week I had three very intense days. Suddenly everyone is pulling on you and things get complicated. We had met up with friends and there was still work to do. I felt a little overwhelmed because I had left things for the next day.
Tiredness: although not exaggerated. The bad thing is that I didn’t sleep a single day as much as I would have liked. In the end the problem was more wanting to train for the marathon than doing a workation. I have tried to always go to bed at ws data a reasonable time. Between 10-11 pm in bed and most days at 6 am up.
My plans for workation 2025
We are clear that we want to repeat the experience. If possible, even 4-5 weeks if everything goes well. This time we will have to make small adjustments so that the second part is better than the first.

Taking at least a whole week off

Yes, it is necessary. Being in this mode for a longer period of time also requires having a 100% break. In the end you are between both worlds, however beautiful they may be.
Doing a little less sport: I don’t know if I will be able to do this. The million-dollar question will be whether running marathons will get me hooked again or not. I like doing sport but the double sessions in four out of five days have been very intense.
I agree better with friends’ schedules: if I have to subtract points from this year it is because we have not been able to spend more time with friends. We came with the idea that three weeks would be enough and we would have plenty of time to see everyone. It hasn’t been bad this year, but I think we can improve it a bit in 2025.
